The Entanglement of Rational Calculation in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 19, Poem 13)
In Chapter 19, Poem 13 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet critiques the seeker's reliance on rational control and calculation (تصرف و تدبیر) on the spiritual path. The poem asserts that as long as a seeker depends on their own planning and agency, every aspect of their life becomes a trap or entanglement (دامنگیر). Attar suggests that true spiritual liberation requires abandoning personal calculation in favor of complete surrender, as relying on one's own flawed methods leaves the seeker confined, much like a madman bound by chains.
