In Section 2 of the chapter on wearing the patched frock (lubs al-muraqqa'at) in Hujwiri's Kashf al-Mahjub, the discussion moves from the meaning of the muraqqa' to the etiquette (adab) of making and mending it. The governing condition is that the frock be made for lightness and ease rather than for show, and that a patch (ruqʿa) be placed wherever the original garment tears. Hujwiri records two positions of the shaykhs on how the patch should be sewn: one group holds that no particular order or precision is required, so that the needle simply passes wherever it comes out, without affectation (takalluf); the other group holds that orderliness and straightness in the stitching are required, since patching is an act of spiritual poverty (faqr), and the soundness of outward practice (muʿamalat) is a sign of the soundness of the inner principle (asl). The mended frock thus becomes a discipline in which external care mirrors inner sincerity.
