The Hoopoe's Reconciliation of Vision and Destiny in the Masnavi

In Jalaluddin Rumi's Masnavi, the hoopoe's response to the crow's taunt addresses the theological and philosophical relationship between human foresight and divine destiny (Qada). The hoopoe argues that while his extraordinary vision is real, it is ultimately subservient to divine decree. When destiny (Qada) unfolds, it temporarily eclipses the brightest human intellect, causing even the most clear-sighted to walk into traps. Conversely, denying this divine overshadowing is viewed as a sign of spiritual ignorance, epitomized by the skeptical crow.
