The Infidelity of Ego and Divine Absence in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 19, Poem 27)
In this poem from Chapter 19 of Mokhtar Nameh, Attar presents the ego as an absolute barrier to spiritual realization. The persistence of the self ('تویی' or 'ego') prevents the seeker from accepting truth or sincerity from anyone. Furthermore, choosing to remain in a state devoid of Divine presence is equated with spiritual death and infidelity (کافر), highlighting the necessity of continuous spiritual mindfulness and the negation of the self in order to attain true faith.
