The Interdependence of Knowledge ('Ilm) and Forbearance ('Hilm) in Hadiqat al-Haqiqah
In Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, Sanai establishes that knowledge ('ilm) must be inextricably linked with forbearance or moral clemency ('hilm). He posits that acquiring moral character is a prerequisite to truly benefiting from academic or spiritual learning. According to this framework, knowledge devoid of forbearance is worthless and degraded (metaphorically described as 'dust of the street'), whereas knowledge tempered by forbearance elevates the seeker and brings true honor and spiritual efficacy.
