The Invariance of Labor Choice under Fixed Rent

A farmer's preferences for consumption (c) and free time (t) are such that their marginal rate of substitution (MRS) between the two goods depends only on the amount of free time they have. This farmer works their own land, facing a technological trade-off between free time and grain produced, known as the marginal rate of transformation (MRT). Now, suppose the farmer must pay a fixed daily rent in grain to a landlord. Analyze how this fixed rent payment affects the farmer's optimal choice of work hours. In your analysis, you must explain the impact (or lack thereof) of the rent on both the MRS and the MRT, and how these two elements together determine the final outcome.
