The inadequacy of human praise

Jami presents divine praise as necessary yet beyond the capacity of human speech. Words are compared to weak, tangled knots: even when their strands are unraveled, they cannot contain the reality they seek to express. Intellect likewise loses its guiding thread when attempting to comprehend God.

The passage therefore turns the conventional opening praise into a lesson in epistemic humility. The poet must praise God, but genuine praise begins by acknowledging that neither eloquence nor reason can adequately encompass the divine.
