In Poem 62 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the speaker describes sixty years of grueling spiritual effort: thirty years of running to reach the Divine court, and another thirty circling its door. Despite this lifelong dedication, the seeker ultimately encounters only the 'watchman of the roof and the guard of the door.' This allegorically illustrates a central theme in Sufi epistemology: while rigorous asceticism and sincere seeking can bring a mystic to the threshold of the Divine, the ultimate Essence remains inherently inaccessible and veiled, forever guarded from direct human comprehension.
