The Madness of Love and the Divine Housemate in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 5, Poem 13)
In Chapter 5, Poem 13 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet emphasizes the transformative power of divine love by declaring that a heart is 'better mad with love' (دیوانه به است). Ordinary love is questioned and dismissed, suggesting that a love akin to madness or a legend transcends worldly rationality. The second couplet uses the metaphor of leaving one's house and then returning because the 'housemate' (همخانه) is better, symbolizing the realization that true fulfillment and comfort lie only in dwelling in the intimate presence of the divine Beloved.
