The Metaphor of Separation from Honey in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh
In Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 47, Poem 78), the candle's separation from honey is used as a mystical metaphor for the soul's exile from its divine source. The beehive and honey represent the state of original sweetness and spiritual union. The subsequent separation to form wax represents the beginning of the soul's earthly journey of yearning and self-consumption in the fire of divine love.
