The Metaphor of the Body and Soul as a Mirror in Asrar Nameh
In Section 4 of Attar's Asrar Nameh, the relationship between the physical body and the spiritual soul is illustrated through the metaphor of a mirror. The poem compares the dark, earthly body to the opaque, unreflective back of a mirror (پشت آینه), while the soul is likened to the bright, reflective front (روی آینه). Attar suggests that through spiritual purification—polishing away the darkness of the body—the body and soul can unite, dissolving the duality between the physical and the spiritual.
