Once grown, Zeus tricked his father Cronos into spitting out his five siblings, and together with the Hecatonchires and the Cyclopes, they waged war against Cronos and the Titans. After ten years, the Titans were defeated and banished to the depths of Tartarus and the Olympians rose to power.

Cronos and Rhea had six children: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. According to Hesiod, Cronos swallowed all of his children except Zeus out of fear that they would commit patricide. Zeus escaped this fate because his mother Rhea hid him away.
