The Parable of the Search for the Qibla and Divers in the Masnavi

In Book Five of the Masnavi, Rumi uses the parables of people searching for the Qibla in the dark and divers hastily collecting objects from the bottom of the sea to illustrate the different methods and aspirations of spiritual seekers. Just as those praying in darkness or divers gathering items blindly will only discover the true value of their efforts when the light of day or the surface reveals them, spiritual seekers will ultimately realize the true nature of their differing aspirations and whether they have attained genuine spiritual pearls or mere pebbles.
