In Sufi mysticism, as expressed in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 33, Poem 15), divine pain (درد) and its remedy (درمان) are paradoxically identical. The suffering endured by the 'bewildered lover' on the spiritual path is not an affliction to be cured, but rather the divine remedy itself. As the lover looks past the 'veil of the heart', they realize that this spiritual ache replaces the earthly soul and constitutes the ultimate healing and connection with the Divine.
