It was reported by some patients in that study that the severity of the pain would sometimes become so severe that it would cause them to withdraw from social settings because of the associated difficulties of the pain. Patients also reported how they would usually refer to their healthcare consultant immediately when the pain would flare up, which thus places a major burden on the patient whenever a sudden flare up of TN occurs.
