In Section 2 of the Haft Awrang, Jami explores the metaphysical origin of love, arguing that while love appears mutual between the human seeker and the Divine, its true source is God's initial love for His servants. Jami writes that human love is merely a reflection (perto) of Divine Love. He explains that unless the Glorious God manifests Himself through the divine attribute of 'the Willer' (al-Murid), no human seeker can develop spiritual devotion (iradat) or be known for love (mahabbat). Furthermore, Jami states that while the Divine Essence and Attributes permeate all of existence, they are only unveiled to seekers in proportion to their spiritual capacity (istidad). This establishes the fundamental Sufi doctrine that spiritual realization and human yearning are entirely initiated and sustained by the Divine.
