Short Answer

The Productivity Puzzle

An experienced software developer can write 100 lines of code in an hour or type 2,000 words of documentation in an hour. A new intern can write 20 lines of code in an hour or type 1,000 words of documentation in an hour. The developer is clearly more productive at both tasks. Explain the economic reasoning for why it might still be beneficial for both the developer and the intern if the intern specializes in writing documentation while the developer specializes in writing code.
