The Role of Income as a Means for Consumption

In the work-leisure model, income is not treated as an end in itself but rather as the means to achieve consumption. Consumption encompasses all goods and services an individual can purchase, such as food, housing, and recreational activities, which are the actual sources of utility. Therefore, the motivation to sacrifice free time for work is driven by the desire to earn income to fund this consumption.
