The saltpeter on its stone is like thin silk.
Its soil is dead from the absence of water,
The quicksilver saltpeter has shrouded it.
Its wasteland holds the dread of a speckled snake,
Like a white tail and the heart of Balaam.
From the heat of the foul-colored salt flat,
The stone in it has become like drops of quicksilver.
A shadow has not rested in it for a moment,
Ghouls and Khidr have measured its mirages.
Untouched upon its destruction,
The dark horse of time is its soil.
Before the eye and the vengeful imagination,
The dust is collyrium, the mirage a mirror.
The clouds of Bahman have become a hot poisonous wind in it,
The snake on its soil has become like wax.
Its plain is exactly like Hell,
The soil is exactly like the heart of Mu'awiya.
For he would not go out from the dread of that plain,
Khidr without water and without a guide.
