The Tale of the Four Praying Hindus in the Masnavi

In Book Two of Rumi's Masnavi, the story of four Hindus praying together illustrates the human tendency to point out the flaws of others while remaining blind to one's own. During the prayer, each man speaks out of turn to correct or criticize another, or to boast about his own correctness, thereby breaking his own prayer. Rumi uses this narrative to emphasize the spiritual importance of self-reflection, teaching that the most fortunate soul is the one who recognizes and focuses on their own faults rather than judging the shortcomings of others.
