The Transcendence of Love over Intellect in Attar's Asrar Nameh
In the Fifth Discourse of the Asrar Nameh, Farid al-Din Attar emphasizes the absolute supremacy of divine love (eshq) over human intellect (kherad). He employs the metaphor of pouring the 'wine of love into the cup of intellect' to illustrate that the rational mind must be intoxicated and silenced by love's overwhelming power. By instructing the spiritual seeker to blind the intellect once love arrives, Attar reinforces the core Sufi doctrine that true spiritual realization requires the abandonment of conventional reason and logic in favor of a consuming passion for the Divine.
