Jami distinguishes the true heart from the bodily organ concealed within the human frame. The physical heart is subject to life and death and merely manifests the deeper heart's mysteries and light. The true heart is portrayed as an immeasurable spiritual reality capable of encompassing the cosmos and receiving divine presence. It becomes fully awakened through companionship with a صاحبدل, a spiritually realized possessor of the heart, rather than through isolated self-seeking.
