A high placebo rate is valuable to the progression of the COVID-19 vaccine because it offers researchers with constructive data as to how effective the trial vaccines really are. In a way, the higher placebo response rate, the more modifications are forced to be made to create an effective vaccine.

Considering the high societal demand for a COVID-19 vaccine, there is a great likelihood that the expectations of the patients' need for an effective treatment will increase; this will have a dramatic psychological effect on the patient's response to trial vaccines. Psychologically speaking, a greater societal demand for a treatment for COVID-19, which increases the expectations of the patient, leads to a great likelihood for a high placebo response rate.
