In Chapter 8, Poem 1 of the Mokhtar Nameh, Attar uses the metaphors of the veil (parda) and the ocean (darya) to describe the relationship between creation and the Divine. The poem suggests that all visible forms are merely manifestations projected from beyond the veil. When the veil of illusion is ultimately removed, all created beings are completely dissolved and drowned within the infinite divine ocean, losing their separate, apparent existence in the state of total annihilation (fana).
