This phrase is the central tenet of Gestalt psychology. It posits that the human brain creates a perception, or 'gestalt,' that is more than just the sum of the available sensory inputs. Instead of processing individual components in isolation, the mind organizes them into a meaningful and unified whole, following predictable principles.
