To be or not to be on Twitter, and its relationship with the tweeting and citation of research papers results: tweets

  • authors with Twitter published 2082 papers (average 27.4 per author)
  • authors without Twitter published 2084 papers (averaging 16.8 per author)
  • no statistical difference was found between these two groups for production of articles
  • only 342 articles from the total were mentioned on Twitter, 121 by non-Twitter users and 221 by Twitter-users
  • papers from Twitter users receive 33% more Tweets
