Relation
Tocilizumab and IL-6 Receptors
- Interleukin 6 (IL-6) plays a role in inflammation
- When binded to receptors on target cells of the virus, inflammation in the lungs and other organs occur
- Tocilizumab (an antibody) can bind to the receptor IL-6; this prevents IL-6 from binding with the target cells and causing inflammation. It is an inhibitor of both membrane-bound and soluble IL-6, thus allowing inhibition both cis and trans transduction pathways of IL-6.
