Troubleshooting Calls Use Diagnostic Pricing

Electrical troubleshooting work, such as tracing a breaker that keeps tripping, finding a dead receptacle, or tracking down intermittent lighting, usually cannot be sold as a flat price at dispatch because the fault is unknown. A diagnostic fee covers the first set amount of investigation time. If the electrician must continue into repair work after the diagnosis, the job shifts to time-and-material billing. This approach gives the customer a clear starting charge while limiting the contractor’s exposure to unlimited troubleshooting time.
