Trust and Fairness to Society

Throughout United States History, there has been numerous instances (e.g. slavery, Tuskegee Syphilis Study, etc.) which led to the development of mistrust and feelings of unfairness towards social institutions and society at large. The authors suggest that it is likely that this carries over to interpersonal relationships. In other words, people might not trust other people or societally approved activities that endorse trust (e.g. marriage).
