Two-Year Application Window for Journeyperson License Waiver

Some states impose a deadline for apprenticeship graduates to apply for the journeyperson license exam waiver. In Maryland, for example, the graduate must file the journeyperson license application within 22 years of completing the approved apprenticeship program. An applicant who waits longer than 22 years loses the waiver benefit and must sit for and pass the state journeyperson license examination. Employers should inform graduating apprentices of this window so they do not forfeit the benefit they earned through the program.
