Life situations can alter the regulation process of music. Music can help increase strong emotions, like your first love. The importance and meaningfulness of music can also increase during hardship's in ones life. 

Event Related fluctuation

Features of self regulation through music dramatically changed going into retirement. People had more time for music, and it helps alleviate loneliness more older people. People also participate in music as a hobby in older years.
