Unrelenting Seeking and Absolute Devotion in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 31, Poem 51)

In Chapter 31, Poem 51 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the theme of unrelenting spiritual seeking (talab) is inextricably linked to absolute devotion. The poet illustrates that even if the seeker fails to attain direct union with the Beloved, the quest itself becomes their life's purpose. By choosing to surrender his body to the struggle and lay his head at the Beloved's feet for a 'long life', the seeker demonstrates ultimate humility. This signifies that true spiritual devotion lies in dedicating one's entire being to the threshold of the Divine, regardless of whether the final goal of union is achieved.
