Using a Yes/No Question to Determine Willingness to Pay

As an alternative to asking consumers an open-ended question about how much they would pay, a firm can pose a yes-or-no question with a specific price. This method can be more effective because it simplifies the decision for the consumer and may reduce the likelihood of dishonest answers intended to influence the final price. For instance, to gauge the true willingness to pay for a ten-minute space flight, a survey could ask, ‘Would you be willing to pay $1,000 for a ten-minute flight in space?’
