Using Factor Analysis to Measure General Intelligence

Factor analysis is a statistical method used in psychology to assess how people perform in various mental tasks. It often reveals that a single factor can predict a significant portion (approximately 30-60%) of the variations in task performance. This factor closely aligns with our concept of intelligence, and modern intelligence tests include tasks measuring this factor. Unlike traits like personality, where one trait doesn't predict others, the presence of varying levels of general intelligence when it comes to mental tasks is a firmly established scientific finding.
