Correlation Between Intelligence in Different Tasks

The correlation of intelligence in different activities reveals that individuals who excel in one cognitive task typically perform well in various other mental tasks. Proficiency in reading often aligns with above-average math skills, and vice versa. While individuals may emphasize certain skills over others, some individuals exhibit higher levels of what was previously defined as general intelligence—the ability to excel across a broad spectrum of mental tasks. A scientific approach involves having many people perform diverse mental tasks and observing that their scores on each task tend to positively correlate with their scores on most other tasks. Statistical techniques like factor analysis further unveil the underlying structure of these correlations, shedding light on the interconnectedness of cognitive abilities.
