Visualizing Technological Change in Production

A manufacturing firm is evaluating a shift from its current production technology to a new, more automated one. The current technology requires a large number of labor hours for every unit of energy consumed. The proposed new technology uses significantly more energy (e.g., for robotics) but requires far fewer labor hours to produce the same output. On a single graph with 'Units of Energy' on the vertical axis and 'Hours of Labor' on the horizontal axis, describe how you would represent both the old and new technologies as rays from the origin. Compare the slopes of the two rays and explain what this difference in slope signifies about the input intensity of each technology.
