In Chapter 25, Poem 10 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the speaker weeps at the grave of a beloved but is admonished by a voice from the grave. The voice urges the speaker to stop grieving for the dead and instead weep for their own soul and the arduous spiritual reckoning ('work') that lies ahead. This reflects the Sufi theme of focusing on one's own spiritual preparedness and the inevitability of death over worldly grief.
