What affect did exergame features that increase basic need satisfaction have on motivation and engagement? (SDT/CET) (Peng et al. 2012)
Peng et al. provided additional evidence on how game features that increase (or don't) need satisfaction to prior literature (Przybylski et al., 2010; Ryan et al., 2006).
Game features supporting need satisfaction of autonomy:
- greater likelihood of game recommendation
- greater game enjoyment
- greater motivation for future play
- greater game rating
Game features supporting need satisfaction of competence:
- greater game enjoyment
- greater likelihood of game recommendation
- greater self-efficacy for exercise using the game
- greater game rating
Outcomes that were unaffected:
- self reported effort exerted in gameplay
