What exergame features increase basic need satisfaction and which needs? (SDT/CET) (Peng et al. 2012)

Need satisfaction of autonomy:

  • Choice for avatar customization
  • Choice of how to grow the strength of the avatar
  • Selection of how to respond to non-player characters (dialogue branching)

Need satisfaction of competence:

  • Adjustment of difficulty level based on player achievement
  • Indicators for players to see their achievements (e.g. heroism meter, achievement badges)
