Long term care, most dental services, eye exams related to receiving a prescription of glass, denture related services, cosmetic surgery, acupuncture, hearing aids and exams, and routine foot care are explicitly stated to not be covered by Parts A and B of Medicare.

Part A is titled hospital insurance and covers care received in hospitals, nursing facilities, hospice as well as home health care. Part B is general medical insurance and it covers services from physicians and additional providers, outpatient care, home health care, preventative services such as vaccines and yearly physicals, as well as durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs or hospital beds. Part D includes drug coverage and covers the expense of prescription drugs and vaccines. Part C is known as Medicare Advantage, and is a separate plan than original Medicare. 

The Four Components of Medicare Coverage

ㅡ  Public insurance: different insurance plans cover different benefits. There is no coverage for hearing aids under the Original Medicare, there is some coverage under Medicare Advantage (Part C), and coverage for Veterans. It is not a mandatory benefit to be covered under Medicaid, but some States may include the coverage in their additional benefits.

ㅡ  Private insurance: largely employee-sponsored and through other third-party insurers. Most patients pay out-of-pocket

Basics of Medicare

There are two components that compose the original medicare plan, Part A and Part B. To receive Part D of medicare, one would have to join a separate Medicare drug plan. Original Medicare also permits users to purchase supplemental coverage or use coverage from a former employer, union, or medicaid to help pay out of pocket expenses.

The Original Medicare

This is considered Part C of medicare's plans. This is a plan that is approved by the medicare agency and bundles Parts A, B, and D with a plan from a private company. The largest difference between this plan and original medicare is that coverage is offered for additional benefits such as vision, hearing, and dental services.

What Medicare Parts A & B Do Not Cover

Medicare will not cover any costs for hearing aids or exams. Some Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) may offer coverage on some hearing related services. It may cover a certain hearing test a physician orders for the patient or a treatment received for a hearing related medical condition. 

Medicare Coverage for Hearing Aids

Not all States in the United States provide these services, but it is an option for states to cover speech, hearing, and language disorder services and other diagnostic, screening, preventative, and rehabilitative services.
