Examples of Proposed Human Instincts (James's Era)

During William James's era, several human behaviors were suggested to be instincts. These included a mother's protective and nurturing behavior toward her baby, exemplified by breastfeeding, as well as the urge to lick sugar and the act of hunting prey.
