Zygomycetes use zygospores for sexual reproduction. Zygospores contain hard walls formed from the fusion of cells.

Zygomycetes have coenocytic hyphae and haploid nuclei and mainly live on decaying matter (saprophytes), making them important in food science and crop pathogenicity.

Not all groups of fungi cause illness, these four groups are contain pathogenic species:

- Zygomycota
