This lab study compared unstructured vs. vocabulary-based action plans created by mentors for intern-authored drafts, measuring five metrics: * Time: Vocabulary plans took less time to create than unstructured plans. * Effort: No significant difference in effort ratings between vocabulary and unstructured planning; however, for the vocabulary-only follow-up question, participants felt that already knowing the vocabulary (without needing to train or learn it) would make planning less mentally demanding. * Granularity: Vocabulary plans had more steps (3) than unstructured plans (2). * Atomicity: Vocabulary plans showed a 28% increase in atomic (mechanical) steps over the original comments and a 26% increase over unstructured plans, meaning vocabulary-based planning helps people break tasks down further. * Sourcing potential: Vocabulary plans showed a 28% increase in crowdsourcing potential over comments and a 25% increase over unstructured plans, meaning vocabulary planning produces more steps that can be delegated to crowd workers.
