Afferent Fibers of the Somatic Nervous System

Afferent fibers are nerve fibers that transmit signals toward a central point, such as the central nervous system (CNS). Within the somatic nervous system, sensory neurons function as afferent fibers, carrying sensory information from the body to the CNS for processing. A useful mnemonic for this is that 'afferent' corresponds with 'arrive,' indicating signals moving toward the CNS.
