Efferent Fibers in the Somatic Nervous System

Efferent fibers are nerve fibers that transmit signals away from a central point, such as the central nervous system (CNS). In the somatic nervous system, motor neurons are classified as efferent fibers because they carry instructions from the CNS to the muscles to initiate movement. A helpful mnemonic to remember their function is that 'efferent' corresponds with 'exit,' signifying signals moving away from the CNS.
