Concept
Allegory of the Madman Eating Snow in Mosibat Nameh
This concept explains the spiritual metaphor in Attar's tale of the madman eating snow. When questioned about eating snow to soothe his hunger, the madman claims God commanded him to do so. This story illustrates the Sufi theme of complete reliance on and contentment with divine provision (tawakkul and rida). The madman's ability to find sustenance in snow demonstrates that true fulfillment comes from accepting God's will, subverting conventional worldly logic and material nourishment.
