Section 8 - The Tale and the Parable

Original content

English translation

That madman sat in the snow, Eating snow with both hands like fire. Another said to him, 'Why are you eating this? Are you eating something rich and sweet, in truth?' He said, 'What can I do? I have a hungry stomach.' The other said, 'That hunger will not be lessened at all by snow.' He said, 'Tell God, who tells me to eat, So that your hunger may be eased.' 'No madman speaks such words; I eat, but there is neither beginning nor end to this.' He (God) said, 'I will satisfy you wonderfully without bread.' He satisfied me, he spoke the truth, but with snow!
