گفت شهزادی مگر پیش پدر
خواند یک روزی غلامی را بدر

گفت برخیز ای غلام چست کار
نیم جو زر تره خر پیش من آر

شاه گفت ای مدبر و ای هیچکس
تو خسیسی هیچ ناید از تو خس

شاه را کز نیم جو اندیشه است
گو ترا تره فروشی پیشه است

زین قدر آنرا که آگاهی بود
کی سزاوار شهنشاهی بود

English translation

A prince, it is said, in the presence of his father, Called a slave to the door one day. He said, "Arise, O nimble-working slave, Take half a grain of gold and buy greens for me." The king said, "O wretched one and O nobody! You are base, nothing comes from you but baseness. A king who concerns himself with half a barleycorn, Tell him that selling greens is his profession. Whoever has awareness of such a trivial amount, How could he be worthy of kingship?"
