English translation

Hudhayfa asked Haydar (Ali) this question Saying, 'O Lion of Truth and stallion of men Is there any revelation from the Truth (God) in the world Inside or outside the Quran at this time?' He said, 'There is no revelation but the Quran, however He has given friends an excellent understanding So that by that understanding which has arisen like revelation They speak the truth in His words The thought of the heart that has become a seeker Has become the essence of all realms From the beginning to the end of his affair I am telling you, understand his secrets In three darknesses a drop of sperm, neither heart nor religion Gathered from mud and from despicable water Then it became round like a ball at first So that it makes its bewilderment complete upon itself For nine full months in the midst of blood It made its food from the blood of the womb Finally, something shone upon it, do not ask This was its body that I told you, do not ask about the soul It fell out of the womb headfirst It fell like dust in the midst of blood The despicable water appeared at the start of the work Meaning, do not have hope for such purity In three darknesses it was running and sitting Meaning, that light will not come into your hand It grew accustomed to being round like a ball Meaning, be round from bewilderment like a ball For nine months its body fell back into blood Meaning, its beginning fell from drinking blood It came headlong into the world drowned in blood Meaning, step headlong due to separation Then it brought its lip to milk, shedding tears Meaning, shed tears for you are a suckling It saw the breast as black for some time Meaning, now live a bitter and black life After that it entered childhood restlessly Meaning, no work comes from children In youth it walked out of alienation Meaning, this is a branch of madness After that its intellect was ruined by old age Meaning, do not seek fortune from a senile old man After that, unaware, it sank under the dust Meaning, it did not catch a scent of the pure soul Whoever is bound by so many twists and turns Will not find the soul, and will die as absolutely nothing Until you find the far-sighted soul How can you call yourself human? Humanity is not a drop of sperm from water and clay Humanity is the holy secret and the pure soul A hundred worlds full of angels in existence How could they finally prostrate to a drop of sperm? Do you not have the desire, O handful of dust That this handful of your dust becomes a pure soul? For someone to find the proximity of the soul from a drop of sperm They must endure much incurable pain The remedy for this matter is bewilderment The medicine for this pain is being incurable From the beginning of the sperm drop to this place Look at how much of the path is ahead Every heart that achieves this seeking Will be intoxicated and senseless until the Resurrection The seeker of thought, from the pain of this seeking Does not rest for a moment, day or night He runs so that he exchanges the body with the soul He makes the body reach the soul before death The work is the work of thought in this place Because for a moment it does not turn its head from the path The work of thought, inevitably, for an hour Is better for you than seventy years of your obedience The seeker of thought is helpless in his soul Remaining head-down like a knocker on the door He would not bow his head to the elder Nor did his own path seem good to him Neither pleased with himself nor with the people Neither happy with the zunar (belt) nor with the dervish cloak He did not consider himself more than a dog Nor did he see anyone poorer than himself Not all, not nothing, not part, and not whole Not bad and not good, not honor and not disgrace Not crooked and not straight, and not imitation either Not body and not soul, and not monotheism either Not an assumption, not a certainty, not a doubt Not much, not intermediate, not a little Not a companion, not a single one, not an intimate friend Not a friend, not anyone, not a confidant Not a heart, not an eye, not a chest Not a body, not a love, and not a hatred Not a Muslim of state, not an infidel And this bewilderment has neither foot nor head Not less than a drop of sign from those before Not less than an atom of expression from the end Not anyone seeking from the enduring ones Not anyone speaking from the coming ones Not the heart having news of the state of those who departed Not the soul having a trace of the affairs of the sleeping ones Not a dust visible from so many caravans Not a man visible amidst the commotion Not anyone having complete disbelief or faith Not one having complete pain or remedy No head visible and no path visible The path has a well visible at every step No advice has taken hold of anyone's skirt No religious law seen except the shortcomings of people All left in the tumult of negligence All left in effect and cause Hundreds of thousands of people gathered together All coming into the plunder of the world That one takes from this one, this one from that one That one has certainty from this, this one has doubt from that That one has become astray like a pig And the other has become a fox from deceit That one has come in strength like an elephant And the other has come like an ant out of greed That one has become dog-natured and dog-charactered And the other has become full of tricks like a mouse That one has come into the trap for a seed And the other has come raw from burning That one a carrion-eater like an eagle And the other seeking cries like a crow That one has come to anger out of grief And the other has come to the evil eye from polytheism That one has become pregnant by the judge And the other satisfied with the menstruation of being a police chief That one has appeared as the essence of the unknown And the other has appeared as the essence of the defective That one has beaten the drum of roaring like a lion And the other has let out the cry of tearing like a wolf This one has pulled everything into itself like a crocodile And that one has torn everything upon itself like a leopard This one fresh like a fish on the surface of the water again And that one like a bird having spread its wings in the air again This angel-like one has come as a demon of people And that fairy-mate has come like a scorpion This one like Nimrod making hell And that one like Shaddad raising a paradise This one with a bejeweled beard like the leprous Pharaoh And that one like Haman, a cow-bearded bowl-licker This one with a chest full of pride to the head out of malice And that one with a room full of immorality to the door out of wages This one depressed in affairs from coldness like ice And that one restless from heat like fire This one manifesting from blindness like a narcissus And that one not having heard a single word from deafness That one has come sour-faced like vinegar And that one has come muddy-natured like a pond This one has made everything from deceit and spell And that one has made an electuary entirely from arrogance This one has become a companion to the poison of stinginess And that one has become a confidant of hypocrisy and vanity This one has stamped the seal of envy on the body And that one has struck the melancholy of hypocrisy from desire This one stuck with an excuse like women And that one has recited a hundred syllables like children This one evident in taking usury like a cluster of wheat And that one like a sickle, the letter of ailment in the middle Also the teacher, from the falsehood of his own word Left in his stipend like his own urine Also the preacher like a bird on a frame The people of the assembly clapping, him stamping his feet The gnostics too have come with the necks of bulls Each with a head like a drowned one The Sufis twisting and turning in truth and purity Their true appetite has also been nothing The ascetics with faces like a hedgehog Just like a coarse file in vinegar The worshippers boasting of barley clusters But like the chess queen hitting every corner Also the elders have all gone into hiding Also the dear ones have become the point of humiliation The feet of men have all become playthings The royal falcons have all become beasts of burden The people of the bench have become companions of the owl Seeking wool, they have carded the wool The people of the heart, with faces like gold and dry lips Have remained silent hoping the day turns to night The people of secret having turned their faces to the wall Telling their secret again to the wall Everyone in another religion and path Every heart in another well from doubt The philosopher left in quality and quantity The sophist left in the negation of the world All have raised their heads in blind imitation Having thought their leaders to be like themselves O you who have named prejudice ability Who have named doubt secrets and knowledge This one having learned theology for the sake of dispute And that one having entered logic for the sake of tricks This one having studied ethics for the sake of exaggeration And that one having become an astrologer for the sake of loftiness Every worthless person has drowned in acquisition But not for acquisition, for superiority Hundreds of thousands of base lusts Have circled the soul from roof and door The bewildered seeker without reason and sense Was seeing a hundred worlds boiling like the sea He saw every single atom as seekers of Truth All fallen into the whirlpool of Truth He sifted all the dust of the world on a sieve He abandoned intellect, doubt, and difficulty He sifted the dust of the world hundreds of thousands of times He poured a pearl upon the board of dinars Finally, assistance came to him from the Truth An elder came to the top of his sieve A sun shining in the two worlds A world of stars having found the way from him Effaced, he became absolutely annihilated He became immersed in the world of love He lost I-ness in the Divine Essence He also lost his head in eternity He saw the path step by step to the predecessors He went door to door and roof to roof to the end Not an era remaining in an era In a place, not remaining in a place Having seen the secret of every atom in the two worlds ...
