Section 5 - On the Ascension of the Prophet, Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him and His Family
Original content
English translation
One night the trustworthy Gabriel rushed in Saying, O beloved of the Lord of the Worlds A hundred worlds of souls sit waiting With open doors and hearts bound to you The seven heavens gain life from seeing you So that you ascend from this portico of six directions You brighten the eyes of the prophets You turn the souls of the holy ones into a rose garden You mix this world and the next Then plant your banner on the summit of the universe When you depart from the world and soul You will find proximity to the soul and world for a moment When this speech reached the ears of Mustafa (the Chosen One) His soul became tumultuous like a sea From the house of Umm Hani out of yearning The Mother of the Book drew him upon Buraq He kept spurring the reins up to the sky Until he passed beyond time and space Both worlds became his seekers They came with trays of offerings for him In that ascension, he did not look at any soul Because he knew the secret of what the matter was His sharp head was like a needle, necessarily Like a needle, his eye was on his foot (steps) He did not lift his eye from his foot like a needle He did not stay a needle's point in any place Necessarily, not one needle remained his enemy Unlike Jesus, he was not held back by a needle Until the needle finds this thread again How can it travel on a long road? The Exalted Truth out of generosity showed so much That could not be shown to anyone in centuries From that He showed him the secret of all beings So that the Master of sun-like essence would know That all these secrets, like the moon coming out of the cloud Made clear, meaning nothing is withheld from him But the Prophet did not look at that Meaning He knows what my purpose is For the eye, the vision, and for the soul, His mark is enough Otherwise, without Him, the eye is truly straying ('ma zagha') First, Adam, the old-born infant He picked up from the dust and His grace gave him milk Adam was without father and without mother He nourished him, what an excellent soul-nourishing! He clothed him with a robe of his nakedness What is nakedness? Meaning from his own faith First, He taught him all the names And at last He honored him from the Named After that, He sat at the head for teaching He spoke the lesson of 'what He revealed' to Idris In calamity, He affirmed Noah He suspended the lamentation of His longing for the Truth From there He turned His face toward Abraham Taught him a hundred lessons from His intimate friendship In sequence, He gave Jacob his remedy He gave the hut of sorrows for the pain of religion He went towards Joseph, traveling the heavens And from beauty, He made his fairness pleasantly sweet He went to Ishmael and gave him a soul He was slain by love, He gave him as a sacrifice He showed much depth to the affair of Moses Higher than a hundred Mount Sinais, He showed him a hundred phases From the Prophet, He told David a hundred secrets Re-told the hidden secret of his Psalms Then to Solomon, in that sovereign mystery He gave the ring in the kingdom of spiritual poverty He made the Prophet Job a new station Exchanged the realm of worms for His paradise He became Jonah's guide from the fish to the moon Made him king from the moon to the fish The pure-natured Khidr was thirsty for Him He struck a drop of the water of life upon his lip When He saw the severed head of John He strung him in the same thread with His Hussein He came to Jesus and made him an issuer of edicts In guidance, He made him the rightly-guided one forever Although He gave affairs a hundred orders Not an atom was with Him, and that is all Finally, when he turned his back to the skies He set out for the robe-house of 'Were it not for you' He kept going until there was no going left He kept praising until there was no speaking left He fell into an attraction, in every pull He would traverse an obstacle like a hundred worlds He took hundreds of thousands of breaths in that place With every breath he traveled a hundred thousand years' journey When the ability for the path and breath no longer remained Nothing but the One within the One remained intimate They placed a throne of light before him Infinite veils they opened before him When awe and glory fell boundlessly A trembling fell into Ahmad's soul The 'm' of Ahmad was wiped clean at that time Until 'Ahad' remained and 'Ahmad' departed from the middle Since this state makes the tongue mute From a mute tongue one must speak of the state From such a place which is a placeless place Our portion is nothing but 'woe, woe, woe' How can I boast of this difficult station? How can an ant carry Mount Qaf on its back? Although an ant has a waist like a mountain This is one thing, without a doubt, and that is another From that waist when a relation appeared A desire appeared in the lovers In the end, they gave him to himself from Himself Whatever you say, they gave him more than before When Muhammad came to himself, he was not himself Oh wonder, you'd say he himself was not himself When two masters in Arabia wanted To seek each other's friendship They would completely cast two bows together Meaning these two have become one perpetually When two bodies essentially became one essence The name of this was 'the pact of watering' Oh wonder, when this pact was tied Blood, action, and speech became joined The wealth of this one became the wealth of that one The state of this one became the state of that one In the oneness with the One, duality rose Both 'I-ness' and 'You-ness' rose Likewise, that night the Speaker of 'Am I not?' Tied a pact with the Prophet The two bows of 'Qaba Qawsayn' (distance of two bows), oh wonder! They cast together out of truth and seeking When such a pact was achieved for him from the Friend His speech and action were all His speech and action Look first at the two bows of his eyebrows So that your 'Qaba Qawsayn' becomes correct If in this world the bow had a curve The curve of that bow was from 'Ma Zagha' (it did not stray) 'Qaba Qawsayn' appeared from number The arch of his eyebrow appeared from the One The pair of his arch fell true Paired with himself, single with the Truth When both arches of the eyebrows were joined It became a single arch and was delivered from being two 'Qaba Qawsayn' is the sign of heart-attachment For what is two eyebrows is in one union When the Prophet was bound by this pact Absolute monotheism became the cash for his soul An address arrived from the Divine Majesty Every atom became a hundred suns God the Exalted told him, 'O heart-bound of creation If creation's oath is by My name, I swore by you, this is your worth Then I remembered 'by your life', this is your eminence. Look below, open your narcissus (eyes) To see what you see beneath your step.' When Mustafa looked as commanded He saw a handful of road dust beneath himself He said, 'As far as your sight fell And whatever came entirely beneath your foot, Is the dust of your feet, O chief of mankind I put it all to your service, and that is all.' He said, 'O Lord, all this slays me Because I see all as a handful of dust. What weight does this carry, for it is the dust of Your feet What place is this for friendship's bounty?' Mustafa said that in the presence of God I wanted to perform a prostration When I lowered my head to the path in prostration I saw myself in the middle of my bedchamber When he saw both worlds and became the master of secrets He saw his bed warm upon his return How could his bed become cold at that time Since he was outside of time and space? O you whose place is outside both worlds What are both worlds? The dust of your feet The sky is one ring of your tresses A cloak-wearer in the monastery of your alley The sky became sweat, O your red rose From the ten-petaled rose of your face, nine petals O rising of 'So remain on a right course', your ascension 'Arise and warn', O 'By your life', your crown 'Read' came to you as a reader from the heart And from 'Did We not expand' as a knower by soul You are not an infant reading A and B Your script is reading from the Master's tablet Necessarily you came as the absolute unlettered one Silent from yourself, speaking from the Truth Every word that you speak is from the Truth Because your soul is derived from the light of the Beloved Every food that reached your throat It arrived from the throat of the Creator of your creation Even if you never find the smell of food till eternity The sustenance of 'He feeds me and gives me drink' is complete O earth and sky, the dust of your door The Throne and Footstool are gleaners of your essence As long as I have one soul and as long as I am alive I am a servant to your every joint with a hundred souls May there be naught in my tongue but your praise May the cash of my soul be naught but loyalty to you I am not the man to describe your essence Even this much is from your blessings If the description of my intellect has come out as a warrior The intellect is deficient, the description has come out impotent He who can hear description from God How can the description of anyone reach there? I do not say that I am your Hassan (the poet) As long as I am, I am the dust of a dog belonging to you If you will not cast a glance towards us Until eternity we will say 'Where is the escape?' Count me as your Ummah, for this one word I am showing, do whatever you wish Because this story is transmitted from you From the reliable ones dwelling in your court
